Idaho Killer Bug: Two (2) flies per package. Hooks used are from Firehole Outdoors located near Bozeman, MT. Hooks are black nickel carbon steel; chemically sharpen; and, have a longer turned-up point for excellent penetration and holding power without having to apply much pressure. Oh, and they’re crazy sharp! The Idaho Killer Bug is the sibling to the Utah Killer Bug pattern with a just a twist in the variant of color yarn used and hackle color. The Idaho Killer Bug has proved to be super effective in all watersheds throughout the country and abroad. Oftentimes just a subtle pattern variation is all it takes to put fish in the net. There is a lot to be said for fishing a hackled fly. One of the main themes of tenkara, fixed-line, and, traditional fly fishing is that the presentation is more important than the fly choice, and, a hackled fly can give an angler just a little bit more versatility with respect to presentation. A nymph imitation can be fished dead drift, pulsed to mimic the swimming action of a scud, or manipulated with a slight lift to mimic a mayfly nymph or caddis pupa rising to the surface to hatch. With added soft hackle, though, pulsing the fly causes the hackle to open and closes and give additional presents of life. With it's enlarged tapered body and protruding hackle, the Idaho Killer Bug looks a like a caddis pupa; a small leech; a plump scud bug; or some other aquatic insect? We certainly can't tell what fish think it looks like - but evidently they do think it looks like food!
